It's always sunny on SkyPress

Pointing at the wider atmosphere

I've made a handful of small changes in SkyPress. Nothing huge, but worth a quick note.

A spiral instead of a butterfly

Profile and mention links used to be marked with the Bluesky butterfly. They're now marked with a 🌀.

Bluesky is one app on top of the AT Protocol, and I've been wondering about an ATmosphere icon for a while now. I don't believe there is any specific icon yet, but I really believe that's something that can come from the community itself. I've really appreciated the efforts from folks on the Fediverse to adopt ⁂ as the official icon, and I think something like that could happen for ATProto too.

And then, @renderg.host posted this:

I love it, might as well start adopting it!

Links point at mu.social

When you click a profile, mention, or hashtag in SkyPress now, it opens on mu.social instead of bsky.app. Posts still go to the same network; only the "view" links changed.

It's not about leaving Bluesky behind. I just like pointing at the wider atmosphere when I can, so people see there's more than one app to read it with. Already-published articles keep their old links; only new mentions use the new ones.

DID resolution through Europe

I live in Europe, so when I can keep something on European infrastructure without breaking anything, I do.

To find where a writer's content lives, SkyPress resolves a did:plc through a directory. That used to go straight to the US-run plc.directory; it now tries Eurosky's EU mirror (plc.eurosky.network) first and falls back to plc.directory if the mirror can't answer. Nothing breaks if it's down.

Dropped isolated-block-editor

SkyPress embeds the WordPress block editor. It used to do that through a wrapper, automattic/isolated-block-editor. Riad Benguella (@riad.blog) pointed out that I could start relying on WordPress packages directly, to keep up with package releases and drop a big list of version pins

That's it for now. It's still an alpha, and very few people use it, so if something looks off, let me know.
